You will be taken aback by the décor of Poppy’s Thai Restaurant in Hammersmith, there’s none of the minimalism, bamboo, or buddhas normally associated with Asian restaurants. Instead you’ll find an aesthetic that mixes country cottage come woodland glade with Thailand. You’ll find a tasselled standard lamp next to an oriental orchid, and a mantle clock next to a gilt dragon. Not weird, not at Poppy’s.

The culinary adventure continues with the delivery of the food which comes in little replica supermarket trolleys, oyster plates, and vintage tiered cake stands.

Thai BYOB in a one-of-a-kind setting

The setting is unique – take a pew at a marble table set on wooden floors next to a whitewashed chest of drawers or next to a Victorian fireplace, or opposite an interesting antique (of which there are many). The menu is equally eclectic as you can enjoy traditional Thai food, the odd Malaysian dish, or Chinese dim sum (a reflection of the owner’s heritage).

You can bring your own bottle and there’s a handy off licence conveniently just a few doors away, so you can buy some cold beer to wash down a curry

Traditional Thai food with a twist

The menu at Poppy’s is quite extensive (check our top picks below). You will find something to everyone’s tastes here: cheese and spinach rolls served with a chilli dipping sauce rubs shoulders with a sharing starter platter; a super spicy duck jungle curry will set your taste buds afire. The weeping tiger salad is big enough to be a main meal. Some of the starters come in little replica supermarket trolleys, there are oyster plates, and dishes on vintage tiered cake stands.

One for the eccentrics who appreciate a sense of quirk!

There’s a handy off licence conveniently just a few doors away (ideal for any BYOB), so you can buy some cold beer to wash down a curry, or grab a bottle of white go with your fried tilapia. Get bottle of bubbly for a celebration – the unique & friendly atmosphere lends itself to any occasion.

Try to book in advance

We advise booking in advance as seating is limited to 20. A decent meal can cost as little as £20 which considering the quality of the food – especially as the service is also excellent if you don’t mind the comings and goings of customers collecting their take away orders. One for the eccentrics who appreciate a sense of quirk!
